Guest Lecturer- Hayley Louisa Brown

Hayley is a fashion photographer and editor of Brick Magazine, a 300 page bi-annual magazine.

She studied fashion photography at degree level at LCF, and used fashion images in magazines as her greatest references for photographic imagery.

Hayley stressed to us that it is important to take photographs of subjects which interest you and that you shouldn't do something because its trendy but because you like it.

"I like taking pictures of people I fancy."

After taking high fashion images for clients which she found really easy, but simply wasn't enjoying, she was only doing what the client wanted, rather than what she wanted, to pay rent. She made me realise that even if you're making money, doesn't mean you're doing what is right for you.

Hayley now uses medium format to photograph, a method which she believes feels more formal, shooting music and portraits. For publishings including Clash Magazine.

I really enjoyed Hayleys lecture, she seemed really genuine and her passion for her work came across during her talk. She showed how much fun you can have whilst working if you enjoy what you do, and enjoy your subject; her new book which will be released in September 2016 is titled 'You Should Pay Rent In My Mind', a collection of people she finds attractive.
