Chris Killip was born on the isle of man, UK, in 1946 and currently lives and works in the USA; he is a professor at Harvard University.
The aim of his photography was to document real lives of those living in the north of England, rather than a historical experience, between the late 1960's for over 40 years.
I really like the intent behind these images, that he wanted to show a raw, real side to the lives of english people of that time. They are quite anthropological, as though the camera is studying the subject, rather than being an insider which is a position I want to adopt in my own work.
I really like this image, and its true documentary style which is non invasive, the photographer could have easily shaded the mans face so that he could look into the camera without squinting, however he shot the image without interfering.
