Group Crit 3/3/16

11:31

In my group crit today I presented my final three images for the D&AD; New Blood Awards. It was only yesterday when I decided I was happy with the images I have taken of AJ in my two shoots with him, and that although I liked the outcome of my running shoot, and my lighting test of my swimming, they weren't the aesthetic I was after in my project and I preferred the consistency of keeping the same model and lighting throughout my narrative of three images.
My chosen three archetypes are; Rebirth, Overcoming the monster, and The Quest.
I had struggled for a while with my third archetype, Rebirth, for a while as I couldn't find a third title which I felt fit with my sports theme, however Rebirth fits well and I am happy with my choice. I will show the final three images for my D&AD below and the explanation for each title.

The Quest: Of finding the mentality in which an athlete is calm and at one with their body.

Rebirth: The process an athlete goes through to better and become a better version of themselves.

Overcoming the Monster: Show time.

Points to improve upon were my colour palette for all three images were only constant for two; I plan to edit the colours of the second image to fit with the cooler feel of the other two.

Secondly that my models nose captures the light too well, and that I can burn it a little in photoshop. I hadn't noticed this perviously but now it has been pointed out to me I can't un-see his bright nose!

Also it was highlighted to me that the brief specified that landscape format is preferred for all three images. I hadn't realised this due to not reading into the preparing my entry section. I can submit portrait images however I might try to get three landscape before I submit portrait.
