Technical Workshop Week 7
22:00
This weeks technical workshop titled 'Flash Bang Wollop' helped us understand how to set up a full studio and lighting both a backdrop and a model correctly.
We set up a studio with a colarama white paper background, lit by two flash heads. We took a light reading of this at 1/125 to get it to f/16. Our original reading was f/11 so we put the power from 4 to 6, however then our f/ went to f/22, so our final power was 5 which gave a reading of f/16.
This was our set up: the model lit by a single key light infront of a background lit by two flash heads.
To light the models face we needed the aperture to be f/8. We took an incident light reading at the flash power of 4.8, which gave us an aperture of f/32. We adjusted the power down to 1.3 which gave us the desired aperture of f/8.
We later used polyboard to block out the light from our models hair, as it was coming from the flash heads lighting the background. In the image above we used a softbox on our key light and reshot; we found this gave a much softer lit image.
After completing tasks one and two we got a bit creative and tried to make the light falling on Charlies face harsher. We did this by holding a black reflector to the left side (the dark side) of her face.
