1 to 1 Tutorial with Matt
18:40
For my tutorial with Matt I wanted to make sure I had finished the majority of my work so I could show him to check that I had the right idea about what I am doing.
I showed Matt my prints and he seemed very pleased with my outcomes.
The main suggestion from Matt is that my writing style should be different; that I shouldn't be saying 'I believe', but that I should be more definitive about what I am saying, as by using hyperbolic language I am opening myself up for my tutors to disagree with me. He highlighted that this was very A-Level of me. Which I totally understand because its true; I still need to adjust my writing to sound more mature and professional. I have since been through and searched for the phrase 'I believe' in all my published posts and found the exact phrase in every single one at least once. I deleted it if I was expressing an opinion which could be opposed, and found in every instance, the sentence made complete sense without it. I have set a target for myself to try and be more definitive in my writing style.
He also gave me two more photographers to look into, including Todd Hido who I was going to look into earlier in my project after my initial shoot, however I chose not to as I didn't feel his images related to my own as they were of suburban houses. However Matt said I should do as much research as possible and that I can include a piece of research purely based on the feel and mood of the photographs; in which Hido's reflect my own.
Matt said he had no worries with my work and praised me on my time management which is an aspect of my 'Where I Am' text which I highlighted as an aspect in which I was determined to improve upon. Happy Becky.
