Technical Workshop Week 4
22:00
This week our Group crit was based around focal length and experimenting with the effects altering the focal length can bring to a shot.
Task One asked us to take a landscape image, using a tripod so the camera will remain in exactly the same position, and to take the same image at 3 different focal lengths, gradually increasing between the minimum and maximum of our lens.
The focal lengths I used were 55, 100 and 200, and this was the outcome.
55mm f/13 1/30 Nikon D750
100mm f/13 1/30 Nikon D750
200mm f/13 1/30 Nikon D750
50mm 1/160 f/5.6 Nikon D750
100mm 1/160 f/5.6 Nikon D750
200mm 1/160 f/5.6 Nikon D750
50mm 1/160 f/5.6 Nikon D750
100mm 1/160 f/5.6 Nikon D750
200mm 1/160 f/5.6 Nikon D750
This technical workshop highlighted the effects of different focal lengths on an image; even though I was standing in the exact same position in each image in comparison to the background; the depth of field becomes noticeably shallower when focal length is increased. This effect will be useful when taking isolated portraits.
