PIMIÖ - Darkroom

18:00

Back in the beginning of September I hopped on a plane at Gatwick and made my way to Helsinki, Finland. Okay, it wasn't as casual as i'm making out but the purpose of my 3 day trip was to become a little more cultured and to take some photos of all the nature I'd told myself would be there.

Whilst doing my research on how to amuse myself, I stumbled across The Finnish Museum of Photography and knew it would be rude not to go so I trekked all the way their on my lonesome. Although I myself am very much more interested in digital photography, I went to the 'Pimiö- Darkroom' an interactive Exhibition which caught my eye and it was actually very interesting, looking at both the history of the practice and the current 'buzz' of the darkroom and traditional techniques. It contained the works of over 60 photographers from the 19th century to modern day selective university students MA work.

"The darkroom is nostalgia, the present day and the future. With this exhibition, we would like to challenge viewers to think about the role of manual work in today's digital world.” -Anna-Kaisa Rastenberger.
